Sadie peered over the fence rail and watched the children next door jump on a huge trampoline, a tear trickling down her cheek and her stomach hurting as she wondered how they could ever like her when she, a Chinese girl just adopted by an American family, was so different?
“Hey, girl!” one of the boys yelled. “Wanna play?”
His sister ran over to the fence and asked, “Why are you crying? Come play with us.” She opened the gate and pulled Sadie along behind her, laughing and shouting, “Finally, someone new to play with!”
