In this week's response to the Visual Dare flash fiction challenge from Angela at Anonymous Legacy, waiting, Mirela meets a friend of Miranda's. I wonder where this will lead?
I wonder, too, who was waiting in everyone else's stories. I'll be sure to check out the links at Anonymous Legacy, and I hope you will, too. You'll also be able to find out where Angela found this photo.
Friends and Food
Miranda gripped Mirela’s hand as she skipped along. The child tugged at Mirela’s heart; she missed her sisters back in Romany, wherever that was from here. Perhaps when she figured out how to get back home, she’d be able to take Miranda with her.
Miranda pulled Mirela into a narrow alley. Red-brick walls soared four stories above their heads, amazing Mirela with their height. Demanding her attention, however, were aromas of fresh baked bread, rich sauces, and thick chocolate. Just before ducking into the alley, Mirela had caught a glimpse of a dining room whose gold-painted walls glowed in the setting sun, dozens of tables waiting for diners.
“Brandon’s my friend.” Miranda whispered. “He always saves me yummy food. I’m sure he’ll get you some, too.”
Mirela hoped Miranda was right. She was desperately hungry.
Her eyes widened as a tall young man stepped into the alley. Yummy, indeed.
