For all that it's always nice to come back home, it was really hard to leave spring behind in Vancouver, especially since we came home to over four feet of new snow. We ended up getting home a day later than planned because a late arrival in Anchorage was worsened by snow and bad roads there. Happily, we made it in good order today.
In a completely equitable division of labor, I handled groceries and mail while Thane dealt with the driveway. It's a good thing we have a friend with a front-end loader!
I couldn't resist the beautiful sunshine today, and went out for a mid-afternoon snowshoe. Thanks to all the new snow, I had to make a new trail through the yard and woods out to the Alpetco Road trail. Today's route wasn't quite as direct as my previous one, but it got me there.
I was delighted to see, through the yard and all over in the woods, canine tracks. I assumed they were coyote, but they could have been fox. Based on the size, my guess is coyote. (Somewhere, probably in the bottomless shed, I have a book on Alaskan animal tracks. I wonder if there's any chance I could find it?) I was surprised that I didn't see any snowshoe hare tracks. I don't know where they are in their population cycle, but in past years, I've seen lots of their tracks.
Despite the beautiful day, I'm ready for spring. I have flower beds to fill, and a bike to ride, soon, I hope!
