I'm cheating a bit with this week's Five Sentence Fiction prompt (purple) from Lillie McFerrin. I also needed to do my homework for the fiction writing class I'm taking through Gotham Writers' Workshop, so I decided to combine the two. My homework was to write a passage emulating one of eight authors. I chose to write the following in the style (I hope) of Ernest Hemingway. You can read how others interpreted purple by following the links on Lillie's blog.
The man and the woman walked toward each other on a dusty street and met in front of a gas station.
“How have you been?” the man asked.
“Lonely,” the woman answered.
“I’m back for good this time,” he said.
They turned and walked together toward the saloon, her purple dress brushing against his legs and making him itch.
