Woo hoo! It was a banner day - I was able to sit outside in the sunshine to draft my contribution to this week's Five Sentence Fiction challenge. Granted, it was only 34 degrees, but still, woo hoo! I am in Alaska, after all.
Anyway, Lillie McFerrin gave us "abandoned" to work with this week, and I was reminded of old pickup trucks I've seen abandoned to nature. Don't forget to go to Lillie's blog to see how other people interpreted this week's prompt.
Finding Stories
The door creaked as she opened it, and the shudder that ran through the frame caused the willow and alder saplings growing through the bed to waver as if blowing in a gentle breeze. Rust flaked off and fell to the ground when she rested her hands on the door frame and leaned in. She knew the old Chevy would have stories to tell, and she was eager to hear them. She inhaled through her nose, filling her lungs completely, and was able to just detect the aroma of Dad's quality pipe tobacco and Mom's gardenia perfume as a glance around the cab revealed little sister's Bubble Yum passion and Van Halen cassette tape cases gave away big brother's teen frustration with authority.
She smiled broadly and whispered, "Yes, I'll enjoy getting to know you all."
