I took time off from Angela's Visual Dare challenges while we were in Hawaii this past two weeks, and I have to admit that I missed writing these bits of flash fiction. She hid in the shadows hoping intense stillness would keep them from seeing her despite the sheerness of the curtains in which she was swathed. She knew what they wanted, but they couldn’t have it. She would die first. If she didn’t, she would surely suffer more painfully later.
She watched from the corners of her eyes as the men rifled through the dresser drawers, patted down the lining of her suitcase, and tossed her toiletries. They were less likely to feel the weight of peripheral glances.
“It has to be here,” the dark haired man muttered, “she wouldn’t dare take it with her. The risk is too great.”
“Quiet. Just do you job,” said the other man as he slid a hand underneath the mattress.
She smiled slightly as the men finally eased out of the room. They’d never thought to check the tea bags.
