It's been a while since Sea Turtle Arts hosted a class (my shoulder just hasn't been up to it), but a few of us had a great time with Denyse Brown today in an intermediate wire work class. Our goal was to learn to cage an object (shell, stone, sea glass, whatever) in wire so that it could be used as jewelry, an ornament, etc. We also explored ways to decorate a caged object with wire shapes, beads, or whatever else caught our imaginations. I think I can speak for everyone when I say the class was a great success. I'll let the photos tell the story.
Jan, above, brought an assortment of small stones and sequoia cones to play with. She made the lovely items below. The decorated cone is intended to be an ornament.
Donna was fabulous in red, and brought shells to play with. I think the stone she decorated, below, was one of Jan's - we were all happy to share our goods.
Denyse, in addition to demonstrating techniques for the rest of us, managed to completely steampunk a long black stone. The other pieces below were recent creations she brought to inspire us.
I didn't get my picture taken, but I had fun playing with my vast horde of sea glass. I could stay busy for years decorating all I've collected on the beaches of Hawaii and Mexico, and I plan to keep collecting.
Rowan made a couple of pieces, too, but I didn't get a photo of them before posting this. They were very colorful, however.
If anyone is interested, I'm sure we can talk Denyse into offering this class again. I'm also hopeful that she'll have some new offerings for us in the New Year. I plan to offer a few classes then, too, so keep an eye on this space for more information.
