A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a bit of flash fiction about a very frustrated Mirela and her cow, Vaca, in response to that week's Visual Dare. This week, Angela at Anonymous Legacy decided to take a short break from posting new photos for her weekly challenge, and instead asked readers/writers to choose a photo from the past year of prompts. I looked at several and finally settled on "water road" from this past April.
This photo reminded me of Mirela and her predicament, so I thought I'd create another scene for her story.
Mirela leaned heavily on Vaca’s side as she limped down the street. Pain shot through her left foot with every step from having
stubbed her toe on a paving brick. They had been wandering, following one twisting lane after another, for hours.“Now where do we go?” Mirela said as Vaca stooped to drink from the canal blocking their way. As she did, she let loose a gush of
piss.“Non! Non!” A woman hanging clothes from a balcony high above them screamed as she waved a wet skirt at them.
Tears streamed down Mirela’s face as they scurried away.
Don't forget to swing by Anonymous Legacy to see what stories other flash fiction writers have posted. I'm excited to see which photos from the archive sparked their interests.
