It's once again time for a Five Sentence Fiction challenge from Lillie McFerrin. This week, she posted the above photo and the word "flawed."
I'd really had good intentions of getting away from Rithra's story this week and moving on to something happier, but the storm clouds in this photo just fit her too well. Clearly, I'm not ready yet to let her go.
Flawed
In front of every small hut a woman crouched by a cook fire, hands busy preparing the day’s last meal, one eye minding young children playing, and one eye keeping a close watch on the storm clouds boiling in from the horizon. Rithra walked home to assume the same pose. She was late starting dinner for her husband, and she didn’t want to make him angry. All day her attention had been focused on Olgues’s fate, and she hadn’t realized how much time has passed as she’d prepared herself for her awful task. Making her husband angry could be the one flaw that could ruin her plans.
As always, be sure to go to Lillie's blog to find the links for more "flawed" flash fiction. There are some wonderful stories out there.
NOTE: A few early comments on this post pointed out one of my flaws today - I forgot to tell you there are more parts to this story. If you click on Rithra's Story in the topic cloud, you'll find them all. Enjoy!
