Shopping reigns supreme in Asia.
I'd had high hopes of a good nap on the 5+ hour flight from Bangkok, Thailand to Seoul, Korea overnight so that I'd be able to escape the Incheon airport and explore Seoul a bit during my 11 hour layover today, but the constant bustle of the beautiful Korean Air Lines' flight attendants as they first served meals and then hawked duty-free wares allowed me only brief moments of dozing.
Instead of spending the day exploring, I've been hanging out in the airport. Admittedly, I'm a bit worn out on learning about new cultures (which I'll tell you all about soon), so finding a comfortable chair for a nap and then spending time with my Kindle has not been heartbreaking. The airport, however, has more in common with a high-end shopping mall than the airports I'm typically used to. Only the constant boarding announcements interrupt my potential focus on shopping for Gucci, Estee Lauder, Swatch, and much, much more. Needless to say, I haven't wandered into many (any) of the shops. My only purchase so far has been a mocha and a yogurt parfait from Starbucks.
This quick note was mostly to let you know that I've survived my trip so far and look forward to being home early Monday morning. I plan to then take my blog back in time and tell you all about my trip, but please be patient with me. I have lots of pictures and experiences to process, but I'll get started with my tales as soon as I can. I'm looking forward to sharing Bangkok, and especially Bhutan, with you.
