Yesterday I forced myself down to the studio to do something, no matter what it was. Of course, I ended up having a great time. I thought I'd share a couple of the things I made.
I stole the idea for this owl made of circles from a bead I saw in a magazine (if I weren't so lazy, I'd go downstairs and find out who it was so I could give her credit - oh, well). The background glass is 7 inches square, to give you and idea of its size.
Following in the theme of this weekend's steampunk class, I really wanted to try fusing some of the tiny gears between layers of glass. Just for fun, I added a few copper spirals, too. I love the way some of the metals changed color during firing. This piece is about 2 inches long by 1 inch wide. Unfortunately, glare off of a bubble in it obscures it a bit in the photo.
I'm coming to the conclusion that I need to worry less about creating "great art," and just have fun. If I'm doing the former, I tend to denigrate pieces like these as being meaningless. In reality, I had a great deal of fun making them, they bring me enjoyment, and that's enough meaning right there. I hope you've enjoyed them, too. If so, that's just adds to their meaning.
