As always, yesterday's Sea Turtle Arts' class was a rousing success. Denyse Brown taught six of us how to make fun and funky jewelry with wire - it was her beginning wire work class. Not surprisingly, I'm eager to show off the incredible talent hiding in Valdez.
Denyse demonstrates again how to do a secure eye wrap with wire as Bonnie, Donna and Mary practice theirs.
Jan and Joyce concentrate as they practice making the flat spirals that will be at the center of our whimsical triangles, hearts and stars.
Jan declared her adorable drops to be far too delicate for the likes of her. I think they're lovely.
I really like Joyce's earrings, although they do remind me a bit of beautiful fish skeletons.
Mary liked her elegant heart earrings so much she bought a pair of red glass hearts to make another pair. She thinks she needs to be dressed up to wear them, but I disagree. Fancying up a pair of jeans seems to be all the rage now.
I probably shouldn't admit to having a favorite, but Bonnie's earrings are definitely my favorites of the day. I would buy these in a heartbeat. I love the colors and the style. (The one on the right is the finished earring. She bought tools to finish the other pair at home.) It's really a shame that she's not at all creative - at least that's what she says!
I opted to make a messy little ornament pendant. The wire ball is stuffed with sparkly Angelina fiber. I want to do more of these, but with less wire so that the fiber shows better. I think a slightly larger version would make cool Christmas ornaments, too.
I'm sorry, Donna, but somehow I missed getting a picture of your earrings. If I can get one, I'll add it to this post.
If we're lucky, we'll talk Denyse into doing some more wire work classes next year. There just wasn't enough time in this class to play with all the possibilities. Jan and I both want to learn to cage objects like rocks or sea glass (items without holes) in wire to make them into jewelry or whatever else our imaginations encourage us to create. Stay tuned to find out which fun classes are coming!
