We went on a finger-freezing berry-picking expedtion yesterday up in Thompson Pass. Earlier this summer, Rowan and I went on a hike (in this post) and noticed lots of lowbush cranberry plants amongst the rocks. I'd been wanting to head back up there since its gotten colder, but it's been too rainy to be reasonable. The weather was nice yesterday and the family was ready to get out of the house, so off we went.
There was a decent amount of berries available, although Thane only managed to pick a few before he declared the whole exercise "mind numbing." Rowan lasted a bit longer, but not much. They had fun, though, while I picked 1 1/2 cups or so - they weren't that abundant. It didn't help that the wind was blowing and my fingers were freezing. I confirmed that it's really not possible to pick small berries off of 3-inch long ground-hugging plants with gloves on, even thin gloves. These berries are better late in the year, however.
It was a beautiful day to be outside, nonetheless, and I did get a great photo of Thane and Rowan.
