It's been a good day in the Miller household. Rowan swam in three events at the Banana Meet this morning, improved her time in all of them, and won her heat for the 50 yard backstroke. She was very excited.
Thane and I helped time the races, and he was pleased to finish up early enough to go for a snowmachine ride this afternoon. As I write this he, Rowan and the Smith tribe all just roared into the yard. I'm about to be invaded.
I opted for a bit of outdoor exercise after getting a couple of fireweed pictures in the kiln (the first fused glass I've done in weeks!). It was a terrific day to go for a walk out behind the house, and with all the rain we've had the trail is nice and hard now. I snapped a few photos to remind myself what a beautiful place I live in when it starts raining again.
Since I was enjoying the sun in Alaska today, it seemed like an opportune time to reflect on the sun in Hawaii, too, and finally post pictures a couple of my journal pages. I chose two that are most sun-focused.
Sun worship - a sentiment that definitely reflected my attitudes as I daily raised my face to Sol and basked in the warmth. I don't know if you can read them in the photo, but I wrote the names of sun gods from around the world as a border. This page was just a quick, easy bit of fun.
As promised, here's the painting I did based on the photo I took of the girls on the beach. It may not be a great artistic masterpiece, but I'm pretty proud of it. I really hated to write on it actually, but it seemed like I should if it was a journal page. I made sure to keep the lettering separate from the girls, though, in case I decide to do something else with it. I have no idea what, but you never know what will come up.
Both of these pieces are done with watercolor pencils - a great deal of fun to play with. I have four or five other ones, too, including a couple that still need to be finished. I also need to decide how I'm going to mount them on fabric pages to make an accordion-style book. I was thinking of just machine sewing them on, but I'm not sure that will work the way I want. Maybe hand sewn somehow. I'll figure it out...soon.
